Lester D. Moore
Lester Moore has been active in the oil and gas industry of the
Illinois Basin for fifty years. During that time he has
practiced Petroleum Engineering with great distinction, particularly
all aspects of secondary recovery. He has been registered as a
P.E. in both Indiana and Illinois since 1962 and has served in
leadership positions within the profession. He was recognized
by SPE in 1994. He currently operates several properties in
Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.
He has also been very active in Indiana politics at every level from local to national. If you visit Washington D.C. with him you find that he is well known, not just by the Senators and Representatives, but also by many of their staff members. That kind of familiarity can only be the product of constant cultivation. He has also been very active in the Independent Petroleum Association of America, serving on key committees and serving as Chairman of the Crude Oil Policy Committee, always speaking up forcefully for the interests of producers of marginal oil.
Lester D. Moore has always set an example of good judgment, efficiency, and profitability in operations; a proactive and capable approach in politics; great courage in exploration; great generosity toward individuals and organizations; and has had a perennial desire to advance and support the oil and gas industry. Perhaps the best reason to place him in the Hall of Fame is to confound the reigning stereotypes that have always plagued our industry. Lester is in very many ways a model for what the public should see when they think of “Independent American Oil Producer.”
