Nelson W. Williams
Born April 12, 1916 in Lamesa, Texas.
He graduated from Lamesa High School in 1933 where he played
saxophone in the band and was active in the Boy Scouts, becoming an
Eagle Scout in 1931. He attended Southern Methodist University for
three years, participating in the Mustang Band and swim team, and
then went to the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated
in 1938 with a degree in chemistry.
He worked as a petroleum engineer for Core Laboratories in California from 1939 to 1950 and as a reservoir engineer for James A. Lewis Engineering of Evansville from 1950 to 1956. He then formed his own engineering consulting firm, Nelson W. Williams & Co., Inc., providing reservoir studies and bank appraisals as well as the planning and supervision of water flood projects and the management and operation of water flood properties.
Much of his geological research was donated to Indiana University after his death in 1991. In retirement he devoted most of his time to hobbies which included genealogy, golf, woodworking, computers and making tapes of big band music for family and friends.
A true southern gentleman, Nelson was a well respected professional and citizen as well as a much loved husband, father, grandfather and friend with a wonderful sense of humor. It appears that his great-grandson (and namesake) has inherited that quality as well!
